Q&A: CAN TAKING COUGH SYRUP ACTUALLY MAKE YOU FEEL WORSE INSTEAD OF BETTER?

Question by 25 or 6 to 4:
Can taking cough syrup actually make you really feel worse rather of better?

I’ve had a cold for about a week and I have been taking cough medicine for it (the generic brand of Robitussin). This morning I woke up with a bit of a cough so I decided to take a small medicine, but instead of loosing the phlegm I feel its make it worse. Can this occur or could the syrup really be carrying out its job and I just do not know it?

“If you want to get rid of phlegm, do not take a cough suppressant or use throat lozenges. Cough medicines that are not explicitly labeled as expectorants will only serve to exacerbate your phlegm troubles. Anything that assists to numb the anguish of a cough or suppress a cough will permit much more mucous and phlegm to construct up due to the fact you have essentially shut off the mechanisms in your body that are meant to create, effectively, productive coughs.”

You could be allergic to the cough syrup. If you have been sick for a week, you should go to a doctor.

The syrup is possibly getting minimal effect just because your cold has gotten a bit worse..and because like with any drug, you can develop up a tolerance to the ingredients in Robitussin and it is generic.
Most folks would truly be far superior off not taking any of those more than-the-counter cold remedies, since most of them do not work and because they can be toxic – specially towards quite young young kids and the extremely old.
You can do nothing at all for a cold and it’ll final two weeks. On the other hand, you can take any amount of more than-the-counter or property remedies and your cold will only final fourteen days.
