| Review: RSVP no to `Love, Wedding, Marriage’ Posted: 01 Jun 2011 07:11 PM PDT
To describe “Love, Wedding, Marriage” as sitcommy would be an insult to sitcoms, which can and do succeed in inspiring genuine laughter. This is more like a tedious slog through a series of strained moments with characters who never even come close to resembling actual human beings. As the veteran of many a romantic comedy himself, including “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “The Wedding Date,” Dermot Mulroney should know better than to wallow in trite conventions; instead, he runs right toward them and piles them on in making his directing debut. If you like drunken karaoke, climactic revelations and mad dashes to say some last-minute I-love-yous, then this is the movie for you. It even has the word “wedding” in the title, just to add one more cliché. Mandy Moore, who continues to make terrible movie choices, stars here as Ava, a marriage counselor who’s just tied the knot herself (to wooden, frequently shirtless “Twilight” hunk Kellan Lutz). But then her parents (James Brolin and Jane Seymour) announce that they’re planning to divorce just as they’re about to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Like a spoiled little girl who’s gotten what she wants her whole life — rather than a grown-up and a professional who deals with marital rifts for a living — Ava makes it her mission to fix her parents’ relationship. She does this at the expense of her own blossoming marriage; we know this because her husband, Charlie, constantly complains about the fact that she’s too busy and distracted for them to have sex. But things were looking rocky from the start anyway: Charlie, it turns out, is incapable of changing the toilet paper roll in the bathroom. Men! Will they ever learn? But Ava’s parents seem to be enjoying some time apart, which is evident by their wacky, mid-life expressions of freedom. Mom tries speed-dating (alongside Ava’s wise-cracking younger sister, played by Jessica Szhor); Dad explores Judaism, which consists of hanging a mezuzah on Ava’s front doorway and dropping Yiddish words into his speech. Oy vey, indeed. Meanwhile, Charlie brings some of his own zaniness in the form of the obligatory shallow, skirt-chasing best friend (Michael Weston). Moore pouts and preens and pratfalls her way through the increasingly hysterical antics that constitute the script from Anouska Chydzik Bryson and Caprice Crane. Ava is supposed to be the voice of reason, but makes a false 911 call suggesting her father has tried to kill himself, just to get her mom to fall for him all over again. And it works! Ha ha! The joke’s on us for doubting the lovability of her desperate craftiness. “Love, Wedding, Marriage,” an IFC Films release, is rated PG-13 for sexual material and language. Running time: 90 minutes. Zero stars out of four. ___ Motion Picture Association of America rating definitions: G — General audiences. All ages admitted. PG — Parental guidance suggested. Some material may not be suitable for children. PG-13 — Special parental guidance strongly suggested for children under 13. Some material may be inappropriate for young children. R — Restricted. Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian. NC-17 — No one under 17 admitted. source: Yahoo Movies Berita Lain:

Rats found on Qantas plane just before takeoff Sarah DiLorenzo, Associated Press, Sydney | Thu, 06/02/2011 8:42 AM A |A |A| Rats found on a Qantas plane shortly before takeoff forced the plane to be grounded for more than a day. The flight crew was doing a final check of the cabin before passengers boarded a Sydney-to-Brisbane flight Tuesday afternoon. They discovered the rats in a compartment holding medical equipment, including a defibrillator. Passengers were put on another plane while crews checked the aircraft for damage. None was found. The plane returned to service Thursday morning. A Qantas spokeswoman called the incident “very unusual.” She declined to be named, citing policy. Qantas, Australia’s national carrier, has experienced a series of troubles in recent months, including an engine explosion and forced landings. Source: the jakarta post Berita Lain:

| Bupati: Kembalikan Pandeglang Jadi Penghasil Durian Posted: 01 Jun 2011 07:06 PM PDT
(ANT/K004) Editor: B Kunto Wibisono Source: AntaraNews.com – Ekubis Berita Lain:

| NHS health reforms could change – Andrew Lansley Posted: 01 Jun 2011 06:54 PM PDT Health Secretary Andrew Lansley promised he would "never privatise our NHS"Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has said he is ready to accept "substantial and significant" alterations to plans for changes in the NHS in England. He told the Daily Telegraph there could be changes to the health bill "if they help us improve care for patients". But Mr Lansley warned the NHS would face "financial crisis within a matter of years" unless it was reformed. Labour, as well as Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg, have called for the bill to be sent back to MPs for reconsideration. ‘Threaten values’ With the government's "listening exercise" on its proposed changes drawing to a close, Mr Lansley said: "We have always been clear that we are ready to accept any changes – substantial and significant – if they help us improve care for patients. "When the Health and Social Care Bill comes back to Parliament, people should have every confidence that we will make the changes necessary to ensure the NHS is protected for our future generations. "We will never privatise our NHS. "But if we choose to ignore the pressures on it, the health service will face a financial crisis within a matter of years that will threaten the very values we hold so dear – of a comprehensive health service, available to all, free at the point of use and based on need and not the ability to pay. "I will not allow that to happen." Operation increases Mr Lansley said reform was necessary in the face of "enormous financial pressures" caused by an ageing population and the rising cost of treatment. He said the number of people in the UK aged above 85 had almost trebled over the past 25 years and was set to double again over the next 20 years. By 2034, one in 20 of the population would be aged over 85. As a result the NHS would have to perform two million more operations a year and health spending would double to 230bn, he said. Mr Lansley said this was a figure the UK "simply cannot afford". ‘Disgracefully unethical’ Prime Minister David Cameron has "paused" the legislative progress of the reforms, which aim to hand control of budgets to GPs and increase competition in the NHS. The move was to allow further consultation on the proposals, a process which comes to an end on Tuesday with the NHS Future Forum, which is overseeing the exercise, expected to report later this month. The forum brings together doctors, nurses and other health professionals. Health officials said this week they had received about 15,000 website responses and 720 letters. Mr Clegg has said he would oppose the idea of a regulator promoting competition in the health service, a key part of the planned changes. ‘Care passionately’ The deputy prime minister has indicated that Lib Dem MPs could vote against the bill unless changes are made. The British Medical Association has described a system of incentive payments for GPs, another important part of the reform programme, as "disgracefully unethical". Mr Lansley said the vision set out by the government would deliver "a truly world-class NHS, with doctors and nurses leading the design of health services, patients taking more control and budgets controlled by locally-accountable people". "Our health service is facing huge challenges that, if not dealt with today, will almost certainly mean a crisis tomorrow," he said. "I care passionately about protecting the NHS for the future. This is why doing nothing is not an option. I will not leave the NHS to neglect." source: bbcuk Berita Lain:

| E. coli infections in Germany see significant rise Posted: 01 Jun 2011 06:54 PM PDT The infections have made German shoppers wary of buying raw vegetablesThere has been a significant rise in the number of people in Europe infected by a strain of E. coli which has led to the deaths of 17 people, officials say. More than 1,500 people in nine nations – though mostly in Germany – have been infected by enterohaemorrhagic E.coli (EHEC), which can cause the deadly haemolytic-uraemic syndrome (HUS). The death toll in Germany has risen to 16, with officials saying an 84-year-old woman with HUS had died on Sunday. The outbreak's source is not yet known. Earlier, the Spanish government said it was considering legal action against the authorities in Hamburg for wrongly blaming its produce. "We do not rule out taking action against the authorities who called into question the quality of our products," Deputy Prime Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba told radio Cadena Ser. Spain's fruit and vegetable exporters estimate they have been losing more than 200m euros ($290m; 174m) since the outbreak emerged. Germany has admitted the bacteria did not come from Spain as initially reported, but said the decision to issue the warning had been correct as a different strain of E.coli was present in Spanish cucumbers. "Hundreds of tests have been done and the responsible agencies… have determined that most of the patients who have been sickened ate cucumbers, tomatoes and leaf lettuce and primarily in northern Germany," German Agriculture Minister Ilse Aigner said. "The states that have conducted the tests must now follow back the delivery path to see how the cucumbers or tomatoes or lettuce got here." ‘Unprecedented’ The Robert Koch Institute, the German federal institution responsible for disease control, said on Wednesday afternoon that 1,534 people in the country had been infected by EHEC. EHEC is a deadly strain of E. coli bacteria, which is found in the digestive systems of cows, humans and other mammals. On Tuesday, the RKI reported 1169 cases of EHEC, and said 470 people were suffering from HUS, up from 373 on Monday. Germany: 470 cases, 16 deaths Sweden: 15 cases, one death Denmark: Seven cases The Netherlands: Three cases UK: Two cases Spain: One case Sources: European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the Robert Koch Institute Experts said the number was unprecedented in modern medical history because HUS normally occurred in 10% of EHEC infections. They warned that the strain could be more dangerous than anything previously seen. "There may well be a great number of asymptomatic cases out there that we're missing," Paul Hunter, a professor of health protection at the University of East Anglia, told the Associated Press. "This could be a much bigger outbreak than we realise right now." "There might also be something genetically different about this particular strain of E. coli that makes it more virulent." But the European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy, John Dalli, ruled out any need for a ban on cucumbers, or for a warning against travelling to northern Germany. "The outbreak is limited geographically to an area surrounding the city of Hamburg," he told reporters. "It appears the outbreak is on the decline." Epileptic fits About half of the HUS patients in Hamburg clinics have suffered neural disorders three to five days after falling ill, such as epileptic fits and slurred speech, according to the German newspaper, Die Welt. Germany typically sees a maximum of 50 to 60 annual cases of HUS, which has a fatality rate of up to 5%, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Unusually, more than 60% of the EHEC cases in Germany have been women – 88% over the age of 20 – and nearly 90% of the HUS cases have been women over the age of 20, officials have said. Experts have said this may be because women were the ones most likely to be eating fresh produce or handling food in the kitchen. Hundreds of tests have been carried out by laboratories across GermanyIn addition to Germany, cases of EHEC have also been reported in eight other European countries – Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK, the WHO said. All but two of those infected either live in Germany or recently travelled to Germany. Fifteen cases of HUS and one related death have also been reported in Sweden, seven cases in Denmark, three in the Netherlands, two in the UK, and one in Spain, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. Several countries have taken steps to curtail the outbreak, such as banning cucumber imports and removing the vegetables from sale. Health authorities have also advised people to wash fruit and vegetables thoroughly, to do the same with all cutlery and plates, and to wash their hands before meals.
